Ezra Legal welcomes commercial lawyer Mark Ferraretto to our team

Mark Ferraretto recently joined the team of commercial lawyers at Ezra Legal. Mark is based in our Adelaide office.

Mark Ferraretto

After working in IT for almost 30 years in Australia and Asia, including as Vice-President of IT for a major US investment bank, in 2012 Mark embarked on a career change, graduating from the University of Adelaide Law School in 2016.

Prior to graduation, Mark was employed by a commercial law practice in Adelaide, firstly as a clerk and then as a graduate lawyer following his admission to the SA Supreme Court in August 2017. Mark primarily provided legal advice to technology-based clients, as well as utilising his IT skills to implement a project management lifecycle into the firm’s practice management system.  Mark was also responsible for introducing and managing the firm’s first use of AI-based electronic discovery for a large litigation case, and implementing an ‘electronic trial’ for the subsequent trial.

In February 2019 Mark joined Flinders University as a Lecturer in Law.  Mark taught an innovative new legal technology topic in which law students learnt basic coding skills and then wrote legal software applications for not-for-profit ‘clients’.  A number of these student applications are now in day-to-day use by the organisations that commissioned them.  Mark also taught Constitutional Law and Contract Law.

Mark moved back into private practice in July 2021, taking advantage of the opportunity to once again work as a solicitor and also to ‘practice what he’s preached’ regarding the use of technology in legal practice and the delivery of legal services.

“The ever-changing demands of IT, both for our clients and for us as a legal practice, means that we need to keep up-to-speed with advances in technology in the commercial world and in the provision of legal services” said Practice Principal Michael Fabbro. “With that in mind, on behalf of the team at Ezra Legal, I’m delighted to welcome Mark Ferraretto to our practice. I’ve no doubt that his combined expertise in legal services and IT will strengthen the legal support and advise that we can provide to clients moving forward.”
